npr - "the olive farm"

so i have finally returned to npr after a long break.

i usually listen all day, everyday. i have been listening to this series of books on cd called "the olive farm". we loved it. couldn't wait to listen to it. laughed. cried. experienced great anticipation...

regroup/secret life of bees

we have been nonstop on the house now for over a month.

The carpenters finished last night and I fell asleep with helen.

Tonight I cleaned up a bit and start putting some fabric samples out to maybe make a quilt for helen's new room to match the curtain that auntie Molly passed on to sunshine.

I decided to relax tonight.

shopping for the kitchen fixtures

we went shopping for our lights and other kitchen fixtures today. so overwhelming but also very exciting.

cleaning out the kitchen cupboards dinner

so i am trying to empty the kitchen for construction and not go shopping only use what i have. so challenging to do during this time of year when i just want to eat fresh food.

i wish that i had taken a picture of the very colorful dinner that i made. we all had reservations about what it might taste like but we all enjoyed it.

i had some yummy locally made pasta it was a southwestern blend. beautiful different shapes and colors.

i decided to make a sauce out of what i had on hand.

2 cups of cooked yummy pasta

1 can of black beans

1 can of dark red kidney beans

1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes

1 14.5oz can of diced tomatoes with mild chilies

1 cup of frozen corn

2 fresh zucchini cubed

3 cloves of garlic minced

1 tablespoon of olive oil

directions:

cook pasta

heat oil and cook garlic for 3 minutes

add zucchini to garlic cover and simmer for 5 minutes

add tomatoes in juice

rinse beans

defrost corn in the microwave

add beans and corn to the zucchini, garlic and tomatoes cover until all is warmed through.

we decided to serve the pasta and sauce in separate bowls just in case we did not like the sauce. i served it with grated cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, hot sauces and corn chips.

time management

every day i think this is the day to catch up.

what does that mean?

is this the unattainable goal?

i am trying to set my goals more realistically so that i can meet them. i keep thinking after i pass this event that i will be able to catch up. it never seems to happen.

my latest thought (not the first time i have had it) is that if you have less; there is less to be responsible for. i have the habit of saving things because i may need it some time in the future.

i have 3 new goals

#1 to only make things with what i have for a while and if it requires something new i will need to modify the design.

#2 to start selling some things and/or giving them away.

#3 my plan is to produce at least one thing a day to either use in the house now, sell it or give it away.

yarn babies

yarn babies

Yarn babies 2

my sweet was in the craft room with me when i was sewing on granny's purse strap and found some yarn the next thing i knew the big balls of yarn, well the mama ball anyhow, started to have some babies... this has been going on for 3 days now. the old yarn stash has come out and they have made several trips over to the neighbors in the sewing machine carrying cases aka the yarn family home.

Yarn family home

love how they can find joy in the basics. love the imagination. makes me sit here and smile to think of it.

family picnic

family picnic

8-9-2009 2 006

my paternal grandfather's family has been having an annual reunion since 1944.

for several years i worked on the family tree. my great-great-grandfather came to ny from germany in 1848. my great-grandfather really brought our family number up though with 12 out of 15 children that survived to have children of their own.

when i was a kid we had so many that would come to the picnic every year. many came from other states, it was really an event that they did not want to miss. it is really sad now there are just a few families that still come. the numbers of decedents is pretty amazing but the number in attendance is not. it is sad that to so many from my generation (not just my family) have moved away and extended family is not a high priority.
